I operate Birdstone Labradors from my home on a little more than six acres near Eau Claire, Wis. My husband and I are both now retired, allowing me to focus on my lifelong love of dogs. (I first stepped into the AKC obedience ring at 16 years old and have trained in obedience, tracking, hunt tests and other competitons.)
We are small kennel, breeding only once or twice a year. I show my girls in the AKC Labrador Retriever Specialty Ring, so my goal is to follow the breed standards for conformation and temperment.
We seldom have more than eight dogs at any one time. The younger dogs spend their nights in their own spaces in the house and their days in fenced outdoor paddocks with access to a heated/air conditioned kennel building. We always have a couple older dogs in the house full time that sleep at the foot of our bed.
I always breed with the intent of keeping something for myself to raise and show in the ring. I place the rest of each litter exclusively in pet homes so our dogs can enjoy the same love and companionship we show our dogs.
